There has been a lot of talk regarding the Square credit card processing app and card reader. While it does receive favorable reviews, business owners must realize the differences before making their processing decisions. Here is a comparison between Square and ROAMpay mobile and a merchant account with PaymentMax.

1. Square is not a merchant account and users will have less control over their money. Square is similar to the third party payment site PayPal and will hold any processing funds over $1000 for up to 30 days. In some cases, 45 days. PaymentMax offers next day funding on processing funds.

2. Square is only compatible with Apple iPhone (3GS, 3G, and4), iPad, iTouch (2nd gen), and certain Google Android devices. ROAMpay Mobile is compatible with hundreds of different cell phones including BlackBerry.

3.Square app does not currently have the ability to refund or remove cash payments from the payments page. ROAMpay does offer this function and is extremely helpful for bookkeeping and tax reasons.

4. ROAMpay offers merchant the ability to make offline sales when a phone connection is lost. Square FAQ mentioned no such ability.

5. Square has a description and picture function for receipts. Merchants can send a detailed description of items purchased.
